DC electric motors for industrial environments

dc electric motors

DC electric motors, also referred to as DC electric motors, have a very long history. The simplest electric motors for direct current began to appear in the 19th century, but of course, they did not have much in common with the current ones. However, the development continued quickly. Today you can choose from a wide range of DC electric motors from the simplest to extremely powerful industrial motors. How can DC electric motors be used in industry and what are their main advantages?

DC electric motors are characterized by their simplicity of construction, thanks to which they are a very reliable and also affordable choice. You can find the simplest DC electric motors today in a whole range of electronic devices that you may also use every day. This type of motor has also gained popularity among various domestic foremen and modellers. Because it is DC motors that often drive various models or home-made devices.

On what principle does the DC electric motor work?

The simplest DC electric motor is equipped with a stator, which forms a permanent magnet, and a rotating armature as an electromagnet with a pair of poles. DC electric motors also have a commutator that changes the direction of the electric current and thus the polarity of the magnetic field that passes through the armature. Thanks to the commutator, the force acting on the rotor poles still has the same direction. Today’s modern DC electric motors also work on this principle. But they have already been tuned to work very reliably even in demanding conditions.

As mentioned above, the great advantage of DC electric motors is their design simplicity. As a result, they do not require any demanding maintenance and can be used in many areas. In the case of DC electric motors, the commutator, which may wear out over time, deserves your attention.

Which DC electric motors are suitable for industrial use?

Although DC electric motors are partially pushed out of the industry by three-phase asynchronous motors, DC electric motors still find their place here. Industrial DC electric motors can be used for feeds, pump drives or machine tools.
